Description

Made of polyurethane-coated nylon, these Optimist floatation bags are about half the weight and considerably stronger than floatation bags made of PVC or PVC-coated nylon. Some bags are available with a twist lock valve. This valve is attached to a piece of hose. With this valve, the bag can be easily and quickly inflated and deflated. 48-litre bags are slightly heavier than 43-litre bags but after capsizing, there is a lot less water in the boat.

Be careful not to inflate the Optimist floatation bags too hard. If the bags are well filled, they will be soft to the touch. Over-inflated bags can burst when heated by the sun or rising temperatures. Make sure there are no sharp points in your boat that could puncture the buoyancy bags.
